These are the following procedures for specific emergencies:

Fire Evacuation
- The person discovering a fire must ensure their own safety and the safety of their class first. They should ring the nearest fire alarm or hand bell.
- Office staff shall ensure an emergency phone call is made.
- Evacuation exits are to be signposted around the school and used in any evacuation. No one will be allowed to return for personal belongings. Teachers will close doors to signal an area is evacuated.
- Class teachers will take the attendance register with them and conduct a roll call once at the assembly area.
- Senior teachers to check adjacent student toilet areas as they leave their classrooms.
- Teachers report to the principal/acting principal about number of children accounted for.
- Rooms in buildings are checked by ancillary staff - Office Manager: medical room, office, staffroom, medical room, meeting room, teacher prep and CRT room, staff toilets - Caretaker: hall/arts tech centre, swimming pool - Office Assistant: library, teachers prep and CRT room, staff toilets
- No one is to return to any building until the Principal advises it is safe to do so.
- An evacuation drill will be held at least once a term and a written record maintained.
Earthquake
All occupants should remain in the building until the shaking stops.
Staff should:
- Instruct students to take cover.
- If outside, instruct students to move clear of buildings, power pole, overhead power lines, high banks and trees.
- If a decision is made to evacuate, staff should ensure that pupils are warmly dressed, have adequate footwear, and take warm blankets.
Flood
All occupants should act on the civil defence warning and prepare for evacuation.
Staff should:
- If necessary, contact the nearest civil defence staff.
- Store valuables as high as possible above floor level.
- Ensure that weedkillers, insecticides, chemicals and any other pollutants are out of reach of floodwaters.
Post Evacuation Procedures
Sending Pupils Home
- Any decision to send pupils home will be made by the Principal.
- Students will not be released until it is safe to travel.
- Students will be kept at school until collected by a parent/guardian or nominated caregiver. Under no circumstances will children be left to find their own way home.
- Accurate records will be kept of the pupils’ names and the name of the person escorting them home. No student should be released from the assembly area until his or her release has been recorded.
- Students not collected will be cared for at school.
- Staff are responsible for pupils until released by the Principal/Acting Principal.
- Re-occupation of Buildings
Lockdown Plan
After a potential threat has been identified we should:
- Notify Principal, available Senior Staff and Office Staff
- Give the school alarm
- Notify Police (if not already in contact) and BOT Chair
Teachers should:
- lock all doors, secure windows, pull curtains of blinds, take roll and note additional personnel
- Contact designated paired teacher
- Team leader informed by telephone
- If break time all staff return to classrooms, and duty staff ensure children return to rooms
The Office should:
- check all students, staff and other personnel are accounted for, including location
- communicate level of threat to Team Leaders to pass onto their teams
- Communicate with staff via Team leaders
- If threat continues after 3pm decide whether to release students and liaise with after-school care
- Determine all clear and inform Team Leaders
- Instruct off-site staff when it is safe to return to school
